Mesa Arts Center's Mobile Art Based Engagement Lab, MABEL, takes community engagement on the road! MABEL is an adaptable and flexible creative space and pop-up arts center on wheels with activities meant to create connections on the spot, prompt discussion, catalyze change and spark creativity through the arts. MABEL was created as a result of community discussions and is a key Mesa Arts Center Engagement program.
MABEL requests are reviewed prior to Fall and Spring seasons until capacity is reached. A minimum of one month’s notice is required for consideration, but due to high demand, we recommend submitting requests further in advance. We typically book six months ahead and encourage early planning to secure availability.

The First Projection – The Ancient Technology of Shadow: MABEL will pop up at ALT Fest with an ongoing shadow puppet show. Participants can create their own puppets and bring them to life by acting them out. Don’t miss this unique, hands-on experience exploring the magic of shadow storytelling!

The Transformational Caterpillar Crawl: MABEL will bring an activity to the Spring Equinox celebration in the Monarch Garden at Red Mountain Monarch Haven on Power Road. Visitors will create caterpillars that hold personal stories of transformation, inspired by the spirit of the season.

Buttons on the Move!: MABEL will pop up at Mesa Moves during the CycloMesa Festival with a fun Button Bike–making activity. Stop by to design and create your own custom bike-themed button.
