Sonic Textile is a one-hour durational sound performance where the artist knits over a theremin, transforming motion into sound. Each movement produces notes, and a looping pedal captures and layers the sounds row by row. As the knitting progresses, the sound builds into an immersive auditory experience that envelops the audience and fills the space.
Artist Statement:
My motions as a maker repeat the echoes of those who came before me—the repetitious act then becomes a ritual lacing of all our gathered gestures throughout time. Labor not only results in physical materiality, but in an ephemeral buildup of time and motion. This residue is amplified by sonically documenting labor which allows focus to be placed on primal, repetitious gestures performed by the body while creating—and interacting with—material.
