Brevity Chorus

by Lisa Blasi | July 11, 2018

As part of the Easy Like a Saturday Morning Arts Brunch Series, our charitable partner for July has been invited to share about their organization- giving us an eye into their artistic hope and vision for the future. To learn how to help CC support Brevity Chorus at the next brunch check out our event here.

Brevity Chorus will begin its very first season this August. The chorus is open to all community members 16 and up in the East Valley region of Arizona. Our mission is to promote community, collaboration, and camaraderie through singing. We believe that synchronizing our efforts, energies, and voices to create beautiful music has the power to bless and inspire not only the audience, but each choir member as well.

Daniel Pink talks in his book When: The Scientific Secrets of Perfect Timing about the benefits of singing in a choir. He says, “Several studies demonstrate that choral singing delivers a significant boost to positive mood. It also lifts self-esteem while reducing feelings of stress and symptoms of depression. It enhances one’s sense of purpose and meaning and increases sensitivity toward others. And these effects come not from singing per se but from singing in a group.” (Pink, 2018).

There is something uplifting to the soul about belonging to a group. Singing in a choir offers members the opportunity to contribute to something bigger than themselves. It teaches each participant to value what they individually have to offer to the group while remembering they are part of a whole. This is the attitude we hope to instill in Brevity Chorus. We value the individual, and at the same time acknowledge that we are better and stronger together.

We would love to have you be a part of Brevity Chorus and hope you will consider joining us this August!
