Weaving Community
Artists and community members create cylindrical weaving pieces. A short, finished piece may suggest different animals or objects and can be embellished as such. Other ideas may emerge as the community participates. A significant component of the prototype is the action of “giving and receiving.” Each weaver receives the strand from the person to the right, and after looping the strand, passes it to the weaver at left. The weaving produces a circular web or “spool knitting" with the placement of weavers subtly underscoring the connection and wholeness of the community.
