National Volunteer Week

April 21, 2021

It's National Volunteer Week and we're shouting it from the rooftops: THANK YOU to all of our Mesa Arts Center volunteers!! From the bottom of our heart, thank you for generously sharing your time, talents and dedication. ðŸ’™

In honor of National Volunteer Week, we're spotlighting a few of our volunteers and posting their favorite parts of volunteering at MAC. Interested in joining the fun? Visit mesaartscenter.com/getinvolved for all the details.

Bonus! Stars with QR codes have been placed along the sidewalk all throughout downtown Mesa. Each star represents 8 of the 9,816 volunteers who were engaged in volunteer service last year in various City of Mesa Departments. Mary Smith volunteers at MAC's theaters and with Mesa Contemporary Arts Museum. She enjoys greeting and visiting with the patrons who attend the theaters and chatting with museum guests.

Bob and Susan Simpson have been ushering with MAC for over five years:
“Our appreciation of the Arts has grown tremendously with the exposure that Mesa Arts Center has given us. We look forward to many more years of ushering & representing Mesa Arts Center to the many wonderful people who enter our doors. It is very satisfying to know we are helping people to their seats, answering their questions and helping to make their experience at Mesa Arts Center the very best possible!”

Mikki Koyrkoymelis has been volunteering with Mesa Arts Center for over fifteen years! Her greatest joy of volunteering is the many friends she has made along the way. She says, “The volunteers, MAC staff and patrons are like a second family.” To her, volunteering is a no-brainer. “It provides assistance to our patrons, helps MAC and other venues save money and gives me a feeling of accomplishment and happiness.”

Tom and Karen Anderson are long time volunteers with Mesa Arts Center. They volunteer with the theaters and special events. When asked what their favorite part about volunteering was, they said it was the people. The volunteers with whom they serve, the patrons they see year after year, and the MAC staff all hold special places in their hearts. They also enjoy all the wonderful shows that they get to see!

When asked what her favorite part about volunteering is, Sandy Rizzo said, “So many things! It’s all to do with the arts - how can you go wrong with that? The people (fellow volunteers, staff, and patrons) are amazing and interesting! Also, I’ve heard so many favorite musicians and have been exposed to so many incredible, moving, new and fun cultural experiences that I sometimes have to pinch myself.”

Larry Lininger: “My favorite part of volunteering at MAC is the interaction with all the people I meet, especially our patrons. I enjoy the other volunteers and have made many friends, but chatting with our patrons in the museum, the store, and the theaters are what I enjoy most. It's especially gratifying to talk with someone visiting MAC for the first time. They're usually so impressed with our facility, and you can see they're going to have a good time.”

Doris Kilroy has been volunteering with Mesa Arts Center for over six years. Doris has enjoyed her time volunteering. She said, “Over the years, I've totally loved the camaraderie I've had with all I come in contact with: including the Patrons, Other Volunteers, The Staff and the artists. I thoroughly love my time at Mesa Arts Center. I treasure the contacts and rapport with all the people. During my time at MAC I've learned to appreciate the beauty of the arts from the theater to the Museum and last but not least, The Store.”
