Sneak Peek: See What’s Coming Next in the Museum

by Lyndsey Mueller | August 24, 2017

As one exhibition comes to an end and is packed away, a new one is set up in its place for its unveiling. Mesa Contemporary Arts (MCA) Museum has a real treat for lovers of exceptional art. Coming September 8, 2017 in the Main Gallery, MCA Museum presents you with Slang Aesthetics, an exhibit featuring works by the famed Robert Williams. An original craftsman of his time, Williams continues to inspire and influence people all over with the scope and range of his works. Honing in many different styles and techniques to produce a wide variety of creations, there is a little something for everyone to appreciate.

Join the MCA Museum for a special evening with the artist himself for a private screening of the film Mr. Bitchin’. Have an exclusive opportunity to hear him talk about the work in Slang Aesthetics before the exhibition opens to the public. In a time when counter cultures were not trendy, Robert Williams made his mark incorporating figurative graphic elements such as comic books, movie posters, and hot rod illustrations (just to name a few). Rejected by the establishment Williams created a new art form he dubbed “lowbrow.” In Mr. Bitchin,’ extraordinary painter Robert Williams recounts his journey as an American underground legend in this documentary about his life and work; this is a great way to see the birth of legend and their development into who they are and what they represent today.

This event will take place on Thursday, September 7, 2017, with doors opening at 6pm. The screening of Mr. Bitchin’ will be held in the Dobson Lecture Hall at the museum at 6:30pm, along with a first glance and Gallery Talk where the artist himself will take you through his quirky imagination at the new exhibition afterwards. Cost for this sneak peek is $5* for the whole evenings attire, however seating is limited!

Tickets are on sale now. For more information check out mesaartscenter.com or call 480-644-6500.
