Be Inspired by Ageless Wonders

by Kimberly Belair | August 18, 2017

In many cultures, the stories of our elders are the seeds of wisdom that help future generations blossom. Older adults are often willing to tell their stories but many of these tales are either at risk of being forgotten, having only been recited to a small group of people. The Ageless Wonders grant project aimed at gathering some of these memories and making them a more permanent experience to be shared with the wider community.

In partnership with the Mesa Arts Center and the Mesa Public Library, teaching artists worked with a number of Mesa-area residents to translate their stories into music, dance, poetry, and video essays. The Ageless Wonders Performance of Memory showcase on Saturday, August 26th at 1:30pm in the Acting Studio of the Mesa Arts Center is a celebration of these tales.

Listen to a story about a girl who ran away from home, a poem about a woman who started out as a winter visitor and became a year-round resident, and a video essay about a husband and wife who strengthened their relationship in retirement through sailing. Watch some dances and listen to some flute music about the ups and downs of making mistakes, aging, loving, and loss. Ultimately, spend some time learning about your community members in a meaningful and entertaining way. The Ageless Wonders Performance of Memory showcase is a culmination of a year-long project that has just begun the journey of Mesa memories worth sharing. Perhaps you’ll be inspired and want to tell your own stories. Won’t you join us?
