Stageworks Outreach
Stageworks is an award-winning, intergenerational theatre whose purpose is to inspire and instill a love of theatre in people of all ages. Not only does Stageworks perform at Mesa Arts Center; occasionally it performs in the community. Participants have the opportunity to learn or further enhance the following skills:

  • Receive performance opportunities in a professionally-produced theater.
  • Work with a wide variety of actors in an intergenerational setting.
  • Perform school day shows for a dominantly young audience.
  • Hands-on activities for young people and their families prior to the show.
  • Study guides for educators and parents.
  • Question and answer sessions with actors following selected shows.

Mission

The Mesa Arts Center Education and Outreach Program is comprised of interrelated opportunities that serve a variety of individuals and needs in our community. The intent of the program is to build participation in the arts by engaging participants in a multitude of ways. Each component of Mesa Arts Center's program influences and corresponds to the Education and Outreach Program

The mission of the Mesa Arts Center Education and Outreach Program is to provide diverse programs that present participants with high-quality educational opportunities in the visual and performing arts for the beginner through the advanced.

Program Details

Center-Wide Programs
The Mesa Arts Center Education and Outreach Program serves a variety of individuals and needs in our community by building participation in the arts and engaging participants in a multitude of ways.

Master Classes/Workshops/Residencies
Through master classes, select students observe or work with a master artist/educator on designated skills and techniques.

In Mesa Arts Center workshops, all participants (regardless of skill level) actively participate in activities and instruction provided by a workshop leader.

Residencies are led by a resident company or artist and include a combination of master classes and workshop techniques.

Education for Teachers and Selected Others
Teachers are provided unique learning opportunities, linked to school curriculum, in the visual and performing arts, such as professional development classes, teacher camps, residencies, and other programs.

Community Based Projects/Residencies
Community members are actively engaged in single or multi-day community projects presented on or off Mesa Arts Center's campus.

Art Studios
Art Studios is a multi-disciplinary program for youth and adults at all skill levels, educating students on the value of the performing and visual arts, developing arts-related skills, inspiring creativity, and instilling a life-long love of the arts.

Visual Arts Education Program
In the visual arts education program, professional artists and educators create standards-based learning experiences through classes, master classes, workshops, lectures, and residencies.

Performing Arts Education Program
In the performing arts education program, professional artists and educators teach standards-based, process-oriented classes, camps, and workshops challenging the imagination, developing creativity, sharpening critical thinking, and developing performing arts skills.

All artists/educators have extensive training and experience in art and/or education and are recognized in their field.

Stageworks
Stageworks, an award-winning, intergenerational theatre, inspires and instills a love of theatre in people of all ages. In this professionally produced theatre, participants work with actors and directors from varied backgrounds. Stageworks participants improve acting skills and provide a service to the community.

School-Day Performances
Stageworks provides accessible and affordable performances during the school day for young audiences; hands-on activities for young audience members; study guides for educators and parents; and question and answer sessions with actors following selected shows.

Stageworks provides free pre and post show workshops to students attending school-day performances.

Production Training Programs: Techniks
Techniks provides training and experience for teens in a broad range of real-life technical theatre applications.

Techniks develops group and life skills including commitment, communication, and time-management.

Stageworks Performance Troupes
Five performance troupes provide training and performance experience for actors and dancers.

Stageworks Performance Troupe Goals:

  • To develop and practice group skills.
  • To practice responsible leadership.
  • To acquire self and group performance assessment skills.
  • To work on personal commitment, communication, and time-management.

Off The Cuff
Produces improvisational theatre with actors ages 16 and older.

Creative Zone
Provides training and performance experience for actors ages 12 through 16.

Off Center Dance Company
Produces original ballet, modern, and jazz dances with young people ages 13 and older.

Off Center Dance Company II
Produces advanced-level ballet, modern, and jazz pieces with dancers ages 12 through 18.

Performing Live
Performing Live presents professional local, regional, national, and touring artists in public performances, master-classes, residencies, school-day performances, and pre and post performance activities.

Mesa Contemporary Arts
Mesa Contemporary Arts presents visual arts exhibitions for the interpretation, collection, documentation, and preservation of contemporary visual arts. Mesa Contemporary Arts provides support and advancement to artists worldwide through solo, group, and juried exhibitions while promoting educational opportunities within our community.

Tours and Workshops
Mesa Contemporary Arts provides school-day tours. Each tour includes a hands-on workshop that is connected with the exhibition.

Tours are provided for adults, community groups, community colleges, and universities.

A lecture series features a wide variety of visual artists discussing their media and body of work.
