Youth Arts Camps

Mesa Arts Center's Art Studios programs regularly offer creative ways for school-age children to spend their school breaks with unique half-day weeklong camps or one-day engaging workshops, Mesa Arts Center youth camps and workshops provide quality art instruction to promote creative expression, self-confidence and learning!

June 8 - 12

Acting Camp I with Laughing Pig Theatre

Ages: 8-12

Time: 9am-12pm

Cost: $150

Students in this camp will participate in games and activities that will help them stretch their imaginations and develop public speaking abilities. On day one they will be assigned a role in an original fantasy play full of larger-than-life mystical creatures dealing with relevant lessons to explore how we become something different then ourselves. Together they will rehearse and study the play bit by bit until the final day when it will be performed for family and friends. Parents will need to complete paperwork on the first day of camp. 

 

June 8 - 12

Acting Camp II with Laughing Pig Theater

Ages: 13-16

Time: 1-4pm

Cost: $150

Students will immerse themselves in a professional rehearsal process for a fun and fast-paced look into the life of an actor. They will receive an original comedic script satirizing daily teen life to demonstrate how we use personal experience in acting. Then the week begins by learning how to prepare for an audition before roles are cast, lines are learned, scenes are blocked, characters are developed, and direction is applied culminating in a fully-realized performance for family and friends. In between, students learn improv games and exercises to develop their skills in front of an audience. Parents will need to complete paperwork on the first day of camp. 

 

June 15 - 19

Mix It Up Visual Arts Camp with Kristin Kleyer Mangum

Ages: 8-12

Time: 9am-11am

Cost: $90

Mix it up! Have fun creating, learning and mixing all of your favorite art techniques. Campers will learn painting, collage, drawing, printmaking, sewing, sculpture and mixed media. All materials provided and no experience necessary! Note: For youth with advanced skills or who have a wealth of experience in visual arts may request to be in Mix It Up II for older kids. Parents will need to complete paperwork on the first day of camp. 

 

June 15 - 19

Mix It Up Visual Arts Camp II for Teens with Kristin Kleyer Mangum

Ages: 13 - 16

Time: 12-3pm

Cost: $120

Mix it up! Have fun creating, learning and mixing all of your favorite art techniques. Campers will learn painting, collage, drawing, printmaking, sewing, sculpture and mixed media. All materials provided and no experience necessary! Parents will need to complete paperwork on the first day of camp. 

 

 

June 22 - 26

Dance Intensive with Turiya Chavez

Ages: 14 - 22 

Time: 9-3 pm 

Cost: $225

Dancers near and far are invited to participate in a week long intensive hosted at Mesa Arts Center! this will be a great chance to learn from *various professionally trained dancers and make long lasting friendships. The class offerings will be diverse and focus on developing technique, teaching good class etiquette, learning choreography, and *participating in an informal showing at the end of the week. The classes offered are as follows: Jazz, Ballet, Modern, Intro to Floorwork and Inversions, Contemporary, Choreography,*Dunham Technique, *Yoga for Dancers, and *Hip Hop. Parents will need to complete paperwork on the first day of camp. 

  

June 16 - June 30 (2 weeks, Tues-Thurs)

Ceramics Camp with Darshana Patel

Ages: 8-12

Time: 10am-12pm

Cost: $180.00

In this ceramic summer camp, kids will get their hands dirty while experiencing the adventure of working with clay. They will enjoy hands on projects that guide them through the basics of hand building, texture, glaze and much more! Kids are encouraged to get creative as they make projects such as masks, totems, wind chimes and more.  Parents will need to complete paperwork on the first day of camp. 

 

June 22 - 26

Teen Printmaking Camp with Amanda McGlothern

Ages: 13-17

Time: 9am-12pm

Cost: $150

Teens can enjoy this weeklong camp to explore printmaking! Processes will include collagraphy, intaglio, monoprint, linocut and screen printing. Students will complete the week with a portfolio of artwork and an “open studio” on the last day of class form 11am-12pm for family/friends to come view their artwork. No experience necessary, all materials are provided. Parents will need to complete paperwork on the first day of camp. 

 

 

July 6-10

Mix It Up Visual Arts Camp with Kristin Kleyer Mangum

Ages: 8-12

Time: 9am-11am

Cost: $90

Mix it up! Have fun creating, learning and mixing all of your favorite art techniques. Campers will learn painting, collage, drawing, printmaking, sewing, sculpture and mixed media. July 6-10

July 13 - 17

Performing Arts Mixer Camp with Emily Williams, Turiya Chavez and Taylor Moschetti

Ages: 7- 11

Time: 9am-12pm

Cost: $172

This weeklong mixer camp combines music, dance and theater for young performers! Students will rotate each day through the three classes working together as a group learning music notes, singing, fun dance techniques and acting through theater games. Camp will culminate in a group performance on the final day of camp! Parents will need to complete paperwork on the first day of camp. 

 

July 20-24

Teen Photo Intensive with Michael Healy

Ages: 14+

Time: 1-4pm

Cost: $140

Teen Photo Intensive is a weeklong introduction to the process of black and white photography. Students will be provided with a 35 mm camera to  use and will learn to take photos and process the film. Students will also print photograms, print from film negatives and matt and frame their final projects by the end of the week. No experience necessary! Parents will need to complete paperwork on the first day of camp. 

Parents/Guardians will be asked to complete both of these forms for all youth programs, classes or camps. Download these forms and bring them to your first day of class or plan to complete them on the first day of class in the classroom. Your instructor will have spare copies.

 

Youth Class/Camp General Info Sheet

This form contains important information such as emergency contact, who may pick up your child from class and information regarding medications and allergies. If a child in class has serious allergies or health concerns, you will be contacted via email notifying you which foods and/or items may not be allowed into class. This helps us create a safe and allergen-free environment for all young artists who join us at Mesa Arts Center!

 

Youth Class/Camp Permission Form

This form includes 2 permission forms stating whether Mesa Arts Center is allowed to take photos of your child, and if your child is allowed to leave unattended at the end of the class. If your child is not allowed to leave unattended, you acknowledge that as the parent/guardian that you will or someone else will pick them up at the classroom at the end of each class.
